School's out for summer and Masons Arms gig review

22 July 2019 by Dominic Holmes

Hello everyone,

It’s that time of year again where it’s either too hot or too wet and teachers get an extra long holiday whilst everyone else slogs away in the heat and humidity. Yes, it’s summertime and the living is easy for some, but sweaty and uncomfortable for the vast majority. However, that’s enough forced musical puns, the point of all of this is to tell you that one of the music schools I teach at, Blue Cat Music School in Grantham, will be closed for the summer.

On the plus side, I will be starting to teach in another school in Bingham as part of MLC at the start of the school year. I am taking over teaching duties from another member of the MLC staff, and I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in.

This time last week I was getting ready to perform at The Masons Arms in Louth with the Thom Whitworth trio, featuring Thom Whitworth on guitar, Stevie Smith on drums, along with Rick Woolgar making a guest appearance on some of the tunes. It was a really great gig and the organiser, Stephen Haresign, received some great feedback from the people that attended the show. He informed us that some people “have said that it was the best night we have had” and that “[the] very first thing the next morning a punter went into our record store to ask for the gig poster as a souvenir”. Overall a very enjoyable show!

Coming up this week I have a private party and I am assisting in a school jazz summer school performance.

Hope you all are well,
